When Movies Compete

Abstract: The Netflix Prize started in 2006 is a challenge posed by Netflix, an online movie rental company, to improve upon their movie recommendation system. In order to facilitate this challenge, Netflix released over 100 million anonymous user ratings for nearly 18 thousand films. A goal for this project is to categorize films from the dataset and rank within these groupings. Categories will be formed using only rankings from the dataset and CLUTO, a freely available clustering program. Once clustered, the Colley Rating Method will be used to rank movies within the discovered groupings using only user ratings.
