You will find many lunch and dinner places on Franklin Street, the main street in the university district. You will find Franklin Street walking northbound from any place on campus. Most restaurants are found in the blocks between Henderson St. and Church St. Highlights. Here is a list:

--Caffe' Driade, 1215-A East Franklin. If you walk from the hotel to campus, this IS the place to stop for coffee! Award winning espresso bar and teahouse.
--Caribou Coffee Company, 110 West Franklin. Fresh-roast coffee, specialty coffee drinks, teas, pastries.
--Sugarland, 140 East Franklin. Bakery cafe' and bar. Coffee, espresso, eclairs, cupcakes and cream puffs in the mornings; paninis, lobster salad and chicken friand in pastry shell at lunch; freshly baked cookies and gelato in the afternoon; chocolate fondue, creme brulee and cocktails in the evening.
--Chill Bubble Tea, 145 East Franklin. Wide choice of flavored teas in traditional and unexpected flavors.

--Pepper's Pizza, 107 East Franklin. Watch pizza being made through the front window.
--Franklin St. Pizza and Pasta, 163 E Franklin.
--I Love New York Pizza, 106 W Franklin Brooklyn-style gourmet pizza with all the trimmings, including spinach and eggplant.

--Cosmic Cantina, 128 East Franklin. Northern California-style taqueria serving healthy burritos, salads, quesadillas.
--B-Ski's Tortilla Wrap Grill, 147 East Franklin. Soups, salads and hot and cold tortillas filled with a wide choice of steak, chicken, cheese, vegetables and sauces.
--Bandido's Mexican Cafe', 159-1/2 East Franklin. Voted best Mexican restaurant, plus the best salsa. Need we say more?
--Burrito Bunker, 161 + 1/2 E Franklin. Delicious/cheap burrito.
--Qdoba Mexican Grill, 100 West Franklin. Burritos and other Mexican fare.
--Chipotle's Mexican Grill, 301 West Franklin. Large burritos, tacos, salads and other dishes.

--Spanky's Restaurant and Bar, 101 East Franklin. Casual dining experience with a full-service bar. Traditional favorites, including burgers, and its famed brown-sugar baby back ribs.
--Cluck U Chicken, 127 East Franklin. Chicken tastes, dishes and meals in all of its many forms and with sauces that include mild, atomic, nuclear and thermonuclear, plus various traditional side dishes.
--Subway Sandwiches 132 East Franklin. Offers deli sandwiches, salads and various side orders and beverages.
--Firehouse Subs, 157 East Franklin. Big, satisfying subs loaded with freshly sliced meat, plenty of toppings.
--Jack Sprat Cafe', 161 East Franklin. American bistro serves pastries and bagels in the morning and grilled paninis, salads, soups for lunch.
--Joe's Joint 161-1/2 East Franklin. Serves ``munchy comfort food," including complete meal plates, hamburgers, hot dogs, burritos, nachos and Cuban sandwiches. Funky decor.
--Quizno's Subs, 169 East Franklin
--Four Corners, 175 East Franklin. An upscale sports restaurant serving full menu till 1am.
--McAlister's Deli, 205 East Franklin. Upscale Southern-style deli offering hefty-portion sandwiches, soups, salads and Texas-size spuds, plus sweet tea.
--Bruegger's Bagel Bakery, 104 West Franklin. Bagels (17 kinds) freshly baked and practically everything that can be put on them.
--Panera Bread Company, 213 West Franklin. Full bakery and cafe' serving fresh baked goods, sandwiches, soups, salads, cookies and coffees.
--Jimmy John's Sandwich Shop, 306 West Franklin. Chicago-based sandwich chain specializing in subs and clubs for the college crowd. Choice of seven breads, all home-baked. Delivers till 3am.
--Ham's of Chapel Hill, 310 West Franklin. Sports bar with interesting dishes, deli-style sandwiches and salads, plus homemade potato chips and fried cheesecake.
--Sandwhich, 431 West Franklin (The Courtyard). Creative cold and warm sandwiches on homemade breads.

Asian

-Asia Cafe' 118 East Franklin. Chinese food
--Thirty-Five (35) Chinese, 143 West Franklin. Lunch and dinner buffet with more than 60 items features traditional foods from China's 35 provinces.
--Lime & Basil Vietnamese, 200 West Franklin St (The Pavilion) Fine and varied Vietnamese cuisine, much of it with the namesake's flavors.
--Lantern Restaurant 423 West Franklin, Delicious Pan-Asian food in a relaxed, urban setting.
--Penang Malaysian & Thai, 431 West Franklin St (The Courtyard) Asian cuisine stems from traditional recipes, noodle and rice dishes, curries and seafood.
--China House, 516 West Franklin. Full selection of lunch and dinner meals, specials and dishes for take-out, delivery and catering.

Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Indian

--Pita Pit (The) 115 East Franklin, a healthy alternative to more typical fast food.
--Aladdin's Grill & Catering 153 East Franklin. From falafel and souvlaki to Philly Steak sandwiches and wraps, plus lots of vegetarian dishes.
--Mediterranean Deli, 410 W Franklin. Authentic Greek and Middle Eastern food, including gyros, souvlaki, falafel, hummus, Greek salad and more.
--Talulla's Mezze Lounge & Bar, 456 West Franklin. Mediterranean versions of tapas, influenced by Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, Morroccan and Algerian cuisine.
--India Palace, 508-A W Franklin (a couple blocks down, but worth the walk)

Italian

--Il Palio, 1505 E Franklin. Restaurant located at Siena's Hotel. High end, and so are the reviews. --Vespa Cibobuono, 306 West Franklin. Northern Italian food since 1997.
--Trilussa La Trattoria, 401 West Franklin. Mediterranean, mostly Italian, cousine.
--Four Eleven West Italian Cafe, 411 W Franklin (yes, you're a genius for guessing).

Interesting

--Time-Out Restaurant, 133 West Franklin. Southern-style cooking, including vegetables, barbecue, chicken, burgers and more.
--Goldie's Grill, 137 East Franklin. Full-service menu, garden patio, daily drink specials.
--Carolina Coffee Shop, 138 East Franklin. The oldest original restaurant in Chapel Hill (a student post office and soda shop before 1922). Daily chef specials, steaks, seafood, delicate pastas, homemade soups and sandwiches, espresso, cappuccino and coffee drinks.
--Mama Dip's, 405 W Rosemary St. The dopest for Southern cooking. Rosemary St. is one block north of Franklin, Mama Dip's is a few blocks west of campus.
--Carolina Brewery 460 West Franklin St (Downtown). Chapel Hill's first microbrewery. Contemporary American cuisine and handcrafted ales and lagers. Many dishes are made with beer, including desserts.
--Crook's Corner, 610 West Franklin. Casual seasonal Southern dining and fresh seafood specialties. Nationally recognized chef. Home of shrimp & grits and honeysuckle sorbet.

Fancy

--Bonne Soiree, 431 West Franklin (The Courtyard). Intimate, elegant fine dining with an accent on French provincial.
--Elaine's on Franklin, 454 West Franklin. The best of North Carolina bounty and fresh seafood. Elegant, yet lively, atmosphere.
--Top of the Hill Restaurant, 100 East Franklin. Casual, upscale dining. Winner of many awards.

Sweet Something

--Ben & Jerry's Homemade, 102 West Franklin. Serving Vermont's finest ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbets.
