Modeling and Simulating an
Advanced Dissolved Organic Carbon Removal Process
Abstract:
This paper discusses the modeling and numerical simulations of the
dissolved organic carbon (DOC) removal process in water treatment
studies. We first introduce a new Age-Averaged Model (AAM) which
averages all ages for the same size particles to avoid the expensive
Monte-Carlo simulation with respect to the residence time
distribution (RTD). Next, we discuss Krylov deferred correction
(KDC) schemes and fast elliptic solvers for the resulting elliptic
equations. Numerical results are presented to validate the new AAM
model is numerically more efficient and economical. Also, when
properly implemented, the higher order KDC schemes can be more
efficient compared with many existing schemes for the same accuracy
requirement.
