Modeling Brain Processes with Neuronal Networks
Abstract: An integrate-and-fire model neuron is a simple RC circuit in which the voltage rises until it reaches a threshold. At that time, it is reset to zero, and the circuit injects short bursts of current in all model neurons connected to it. This model mimics the behavior of true neurons in the brain. The talk will review recent successes in using it to model basic visual processing in the mammalian brain. Ways to coarse-grain model neuronal networks in a way that mimics the perception of many neurons as gray matter will also be discussed.
