Phase-Field viscoelastic models for biofilms
Abstract:
Biofilm is a slimy sheet of microorganism and extracellular polymeric
substance (EPS) they produce. It is ubiquitous--found in streams,
pipes, catheters, counter tops, teeth, boat hulls, and many other
moist surfaces.
We model biofilm EPS as a viscoelastic material, then use a
phase-field numerical scheme to study the interaction between biofilm
and fluid flow.
