Gas Kinetic Scheme for
Continuum and Near-Continuum Hypersonic Flows.
Abstract: We are trying to present a unified
approach for both continuum and near-continuum flows based on kinetic
theory and Boltzmann equation. We use the gas-kinetic scheme (GKS)
developed from thelinearized Boltzmann equation for the continuum flows
and the modified GKS with a variable relaxation time for near-continuum
flows. The gas-kinetic scheme is validated with simulations of the
Mach-9 hypersonic flow around a hollow flare and the Mach-9 shock
structure of argon gas. The results show that the gas-kinetic scheme
can indeed simulate both continuum and near-continuum flows.
